Shraddha Kapoor (born March 3, 1992) is an Indian film actress and former model. Kapoor, the daughter of actor Shakti Kapoor, was born and raised in Mumbai. She studied at Boston University but left her freshman year to appear in Teen Patti (2010), for which she received a nomination for the Filmfare Best Female Debut. The following year she signed a three-film contract with Y-Films, making her first venture into teen comedy movie Luv Ka The End, for which she received the Stardust Award for Best Actress. In 2013, she played the protangonist Arohi Keshav Shirke in the romantic musical drama film Aashiqui 2, the same year she appeared in the romantic comedy film Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. Alongside her acting career, she participates in stage shows and is a celebrity endorser for several brands and products.
Kapoor was born into a mixed ethnic family in Mumbai. On her father's side, Kapoor is of Punjabi descent, and on her mother's side, she is of primarily Marathi ancestry. Like her mother, Kapoor has stated that she is a complete Maharashtrian. Her father, Shakti Kapoor, and mother, Shivangi Kolhapure Kapoor, are both actors in Hindi films. She is the niece of actress Padmini Kolhapure and director Tejaswini Kolhapure and she is the grandniece of singers Asha Bhosle and Lata Mangeshkar. Her older brother, Siddhanth Kapoor, is a former disc jockey, and actor. On her father's side, Kapoor is of Punjabi descent, and on her mother's side, she is of primarily Marathi ancestry. Like her mother, Kapoor has stated that she is a complete Maharashtrian. During her childhood, believing she possessed a dainty voice she took up singing classes as she was fond of singing. Kapoor acted in theatre and participated in fashion shows while attending Jamnabai Narsee School in Juhu, Mumbai, and at the age of 15, she enrolled in the American School of Bombay. While there she played soccer and handball competitively. Later, she enrolled at Boston University majoring in theatre studies. During a vacation in India, she was spotted by producer Ambika Hinduja who cast her for a role in Teen Patti.
